We got the room all packed up for the move only to have a last minute change to keep Zayne in the CICU since they had an available bed. Arterial line removed and I got to witness my first arterial spray
The 4 hrs drip has started, but this time she was premedicated to help reduce side effects.
The change from IV to oral medications are causing issues, as I expected. She doesn’t want to open her mouth and dislikes constantly having people telling her what to put in her mouth. Or the constant lies “honey, this won’t hurt at all”. She is tuning everyone out and won’t talk except to hold out her arms and say ‘Mommy’ – my queue to be in bed with her. I’m pretty sure she would give everyone the finger if she knew how.
1:45 pm – on the 4 hrs drip and sleeping peacefully.
I am sure witnessing your “first arterial spray” was not pretty. Any moment of of laughter for Zayne? A tiny, weeny, itty, bitty moment? If I were there I would make a big show of pretending to slip and fall – but then she might just look at me “who let stupid in?” 😉
Actually, the spray was little and cute (like Zayne). She hasn’t laughed, but she just had her chest opened and feels like crap with the meds – she is allowed to be grumpy. I’m just thankful when she talks to me, because most of the day she refuses to talk. Trying to get her to laugh gets her ticked off.
Grump and spunk! and Healing now. Laughter in good time.
Oh my! I love the thought of her giving folks the finger! Makes me giggle, sort of like when you snarl M—er F—er in that Bronxy sort of way with attitude! Everyone in this corner of Montana id holding space for you two and sending gobs of concern and love and well-being!
Be well, get lots of rest, drink lots of water and keep learning! I love living the medical field vicariously through your anecdotes!
